Originally coming from the small town of Bellaire, Ohio nestled in the tree-lined valley on the banks of the Ohio River, Jay quickly moved to the capital of the state to go to Columbus College of Art and Design where he majored in Illustration. There he focused his talents towards the art of animation. It wasn’t long before he landed his big break in the world of feature animation.
Jay Shultz has been an animation designer and storyboard artist working in the field of animation for over 22 years. One of the first films Jay worked on was Anastasia for Fox Feature Animation doing story boards. He then later moved onto concept designs for Titian A.E. and from there he worked on such projects as Film Roman’s King of the Hill doing background layout, Disney’s Gravity Falls, and Wild Brain’s Brats. The majority of his career has been spent at Nickelodeon T.V. Animation doing storyboards and background design and layout for Catdog, The Penguins of Madagascar, Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, and Dora and Friends.
Currently Jay Shultz is working for Warner Brothers T.V. Animation as a Supervising background designer on the soon to be released Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz.
Jay Shultz has also published his own series of art book and prints based off his sketch blog “Doodle A Day” which been going strong over the last seven years.
